Allegory QOTD

An allegory is a story in which the characters and events are symbols that stand for ideas about human life, which political or moral meaning. Allegories are used in many books and movies, like Avatar and Lord of the Flies. An author uses allegories in order to convey and important message he or she wants others to know. For example, Animal Farm is an allegory for the events before and after the Russian Revolution. The author uses allegories instead of just stating the meaning because he or she wants the message to be relatable to those who may not understand it. Other words for allegory are: parable, analogy, metaphor, etc.

If I Were an Animal, I Would Think

I would question Squealer's reasoning, but I would eventually agree with his statement because I wouldn't have another option. After all, Squealer is very convincing, isn't he? The other animals obviously agree with him, so I would agree with the majority opinion. I would assume that since Napoleon placed himself into power, he would know what he is doing and I should trust in his decisions. I am really lazy, so any opportunity I have to do less work would make me happy. Making a decision, which I think is a lot of work, would put a lot of pressure on me and I would be relieved to push all that pressure onto someone else. I would be extremely paranoid and think to myself, "What if I make a wrong decision? What would happen to the farm?" I love my freedom as a free animal, so I certainly don't want a silly mistake to bring back Mr. Jones and his cruel ways. I would assume that although most of the animals are equal, Napoleon deserves better treatment because he is more intelligent. After all, Napoleon was smart enough to eliminate Snowball, who was just going to bring the animals down. Having debates and creating arguments would make all the animals hate each other, so it is best to just go with the flow. Plus, Napoleon loves ALL the animals, so he only wants what is best for us.

Qualities of a Great Leader

Although intelligence is a very important factor in choosing a good leader, there are many other factors to consider. For example, a good leader is supposed to make sure the other members of his or her team are happy. He or she needs to divide the work within the group equally, so no one feels mistreated. A leader needs to be committed to improving their team and making it more efficient. A leader needs communication skills so all the team members knows what is going on and. A leader needs to be open to new ideas, especially when making important decisions. A good leader reinforces the rules and is organized so the team stays on schedule. A respectable leader must also be honest and let the team know when problems arise. An amazing leader must also have a sense of humor, so he or she can be perceived as likeable and relatable to the team members. My group members and I selected our leader based on the amount of work each person was willing to put in. My group members wanted a leader who was willing to take on the responsibilities. Whoever wasn't going to let power go to their head, like Napoleon, would make a great leader for the Hedgehogs. None of the factors I stated above determined our leader because determining leader didn't take very long.(I apologize for having published this post so late. I didn't see the assignment on Ms. K's blog until today, after I got home from my dentist's appointment.)

I'm Thankful For......

EVERYTHING! Is that too broad? Okay, I'll be more specific. I'm thankful for my friends, because even though I don't have many, they'll always be there for me. I'm thankful for my parents who raise my sister and I to the best of their abilities, and also for putting a roof over our heads. I'm thankful to them for taking me on wonderful vacations, in which I was able to explore the world. Speaking of my sister, I'm thankful for her too because I can always rely on her for advice. I'm grateful for my grandparents, who watched my sister and I while my mom was working. I'm pleased with going to a great school like EVHS, with many wonderful teachers. I'm thankful for my extended family because even though I don't see them too often, I love spending time with them. I don't want to sound too materialistic, but I'm also grateful for my iPod, Kindle, and computer.

Bienvenue to my blog!

Hello, I'm Khassidy, if you haven't figured that out already. Welcome to my supreme blog that will grasp your interest the minute you start reading it. I'm quite shy and not really interesting, so the previous statement is probably inaccurate. Life is frustrating, so this welcome post will be better when I come up with something cooler to say. For now, au revoir.
